The Abbaye Notre-Dame de Sénanque is situated in a valley not far from Venasque and Gordes. It is an abbey of the 12th century where cistercian monks still live and work. Church services are held all year round which you can attend. The acces is the most beautiful when the lavender field in front is in bloom in July. A day trip to the abbey can be combined with a vist to Gordes. Keep in mind that the steep road to the abbey is one-way traffic.

In Vaison la Romaine an adventure park has been opened since 2015 with many different and challenging rope structures between the trees in a beautiful park. Children and adults can take the course under supervision. In total the activity takes up to 2.5 hours. Prices are from 5 euros (2016) and the course is suitable from 3 years old. You will find the park near the Carpe Diem camping. Comming from Crestet and passing the camping on your right hand side take the first exit to the left towards the old town of Vaison la Romaine. You wil find the park on your left just before the bridge.

Every year an opera festival will be held in Orange in July and August. A must for any opera lover. The famous major operas are performed here with world-famous singers. Even if you are not immediately an opera fan, it is worth it because of the special location in the ancient Roman theater with its beautiful decor.

Joseph Légier was the first antique dealer to settle in L'Isle sur la Sorgue in 1890. Since the 1960s the number of antique dealers has increased considerably. In the meantime L'isle sur la Sorgue is number 3 in Europe after Saint-Ouen and London. An international antique / brocante foire is held each year at the end of March and August. During the summer you can enjoy the special atmosphere in the beautiful village every Thursday and Sunday. It is wise to leave on time because of the hustle and bustle of the high season.
Under the name of Carrières Lumières you can enjoy a beautiful spectacle near Les Baux de Provence in an old quarry. In large spaces of a total of 7000 m2, art is projected accompanied by mostly classical music. Do not forget to bring some warm clothes because the temperature inside is constantly lower than the outside temperature.

In Provence, visiting a vide grenier / brocanterie is a favorite activity. Vide greniers literally means emptying the attic / storage space.
From spring to August there are brocantes every weekend in one of the villages around Mont Ventoux. There is a French internet site that keeps an agenda. You have to select the department of Vaucluse (84) and possibly Drôme (26).

In Fontaine-de-Vaucluse you can rent canoes and kayaks to explore La Sorgue river. The route of Fonaine-de-Vaucluse is 8 km long and therefore very good to do with children. At the rental time all the equipment and the shuttle bus back are included. There is a restaurant and a playground for the youngest with mini canoes.

Near the village of Veaux you can embark on an adventures walk through the Toulourenc river. This year (2015) a compulsory parking space is created about 300 meters from the starting point. Under the bridge the walk starts upstream. The walk goes through a gorge and there a parts where you have to climb over rocky blocks. The walk is about 4.5 km long and 4.5 km back. It is possible to walk back through a GR hiking trail but in the summer it is more pleasant to walk back through the riverbed. It is advisable to bring enough drinking water and the necessary food to compensate for the effort. In addition good water / hiking shoes are necessary and a bag to keep clothes dry depending of the height of the water. Finally it is advisable to leave before 10:00 or after 16:00 in the summer because of the visitors peak. Please check the weather forecasts to make sure that there is no heavy rainfall upstream in the Drome. The first 1 km can also be done with smaller children. Veaux is 9 km away from Entrechaux.
At the village of Remuzat beyond Nyons you can admire very impressive vultures if you are lucky. There are a lot of vultures who have there nests against the steep hiil clif. You have to leave your car in the parking lot and then walk towards a plateau where you can spot the vultures. Take good care of your children because there is no fencing. Before arriving at the parking lot enjoy a nice picnic at the picnic table on the right of a sharp turn to the left. Check out the website to discover the animal species. Do not forget to bring your binoculars!
Every year a fireworks show is being held in Vaison la Romaine on the French national holiday day of 14 July. The fireworks are set off behind the Roman excavations creating a special setting. Around 22 when it is completely dark the performance begins. Make sure to be there ahead of time to find an available parking space.
In spring or autumn or on a rainy day visiting a spa can increase the holiday pleasure. In Avignon there is Hammam Chiffa where you can enjoy various oriental-style wellness areas. Various treatments are offered such as; Massages, facials, body treatments, manicures, pedicures, waxes, and it has a hairdressing salon and restaurant. It is a traditional hammam with mixed man woman access on Monday- (17.30h-22h) and Saturday night (19h-23h).

In the Mont Ventoux area there are several GR (grandes randonnées) hiking trails. The GR4 and 9 are located on the Mont Ventoux. At Rasteau there is a variant on the GR4 de "Tour de Massif de Rasteau" and at Seguret there is also a variant called the "Tour des Dentelles". The following maps are very practical for tracking the routes IGN Card 3040 ET and IGN Card 3140 ET. A gps device might be helpful tracking your route.
Karting à la Dutch Max Verstappen is possible in Monteux 30 km away from our holiday homes. Again, something different to fill a holiday... The adult course is 850 meters long and 8 meters wide. For children from 3 years there is also a separate course. The prices (2016) start from 15 euros for 10 minutes for the kids. There is also a paintball area of 3000 m2 with prices from 9 euros for max 30 minutes. Finally you can find 18-hole minigolf from 8 euro pp.

The valley of Sainte Jalle is famous for its extensive lavender fields. During July to early August they are in full glory. Via Buis les Baronnies you can make a wonderful trip through the Col d 'Ey. In Saint Jalle you can enjoy a French lunch along a river. On the way you can also stop for a picnic.
Les Halles in Avignon is a covered market with a astonishing green covered facade. There is room for 40 stalls where all kinds of Provençal tasty items are offered for sale. On weekends the local people come together to enjoy a glass of wine and enjoy culinary delights. You need to be on time because there is limited space. At Les Halles there is also a parking garage with 500 spots. From the roof you have a beautiful view of the city.
During the week besides monday opening hours are from 6 - 13.30 and in weekends from 6 - 14.00.
This photo has been taken on one of the specially designed MTB trails on the Mont Ventoux. The "Le Bikepark de la Ventoux-sud station" is close to Chalet Reynard and has 5 km of downhill runs. In the summer you can use the ski lifts to go up without difficulty. There are 3 different courses with an increasing difficulty, and there is also a spectacular pumptrack for the experts.

From above the world looks more beautiful. With a parapent flight you can enjoy the hill and mountainous scenery. In the vicinity of Buis les Barronies it is possible to make a flight with Baronnies parapents. From the top of the Col d'Ey you can make a flight above the lavender valley of St. Jalle which offers stunning views in summer. Tandem leaps are possible from 55 euros.

With the Navette Fluviale "Le Ville d'Avignon", an electric ferry, you can go for free on foot and by bike to the other side of the river Rhone. The island of Ile de la Barthelasse is called the green lung of Avignon. You can download a map using bicycle and hiking routes via the following link.
In Avignon you can rent bikes. Across the water you have a beautiful view of the imposing Avignon. Here you can relax and enjoy a self-made picnic. In Avignon you can buy a variety of delicious snacks and a good bottle of wine at the Les Halles indoor market in the morning.

Our advice is to be present on the market before 9:30, because especially during high season it will be very busy afterwards. Why not skip breakfast at home and buy a nice croissant or pain au chocolate on the market...
The Orange Theater is one of the best-preserved Roman amphitheaters in the world. Especially because the backdoor is still largely intact. It is very impressive from the outside but more on the inside. Through the free audio tour you will experience the theater in its glory time. Nowadays the theater is used mainly in the summer for all kinds of performances at world level. On the site you can consult the program (see link below).
