Every year in France the summer is commenced on 21 June by a music festival that is called "Fête de la Musique". Vaison la Romaine offers every year performances in various places in the city. All in all, a nice way for you to celebrate the beginning of the French summer.

If you are a lover of cheese and wine then you "must" visit this store.
You really have an endless choice. It smells blessed and the cheeses are a lust for the eye. In addition to cheese, they also have a selection of good wines. The store has been voted France's best cheese store in 2004 and the former President Chirac has also visited the shop. The shop is located near Place Montfort where the terraces are. With your back to the terraces you must cross right. Hit the first side street and on the left you will find the store. A brown anti fly curtain hangs in front of the entrance.

Once in every three years (last time in 2016), the festival of "Choralies" takes place in Vaison la Romaine during August. Choirs from all over the world come together here. It is very special to be a part of the audience in the impressive "Theatre Antique". We have already experienced a show were everybody sang around us. Many choir members also visit performances and know the lyrics.

Every autumn at the end of October, early November, the Festival of Soupes is organized in and around Vaison la Romaine in 20 villages. Everybody can join and every village gets a local winner. The winners finally battle for the honor and the wooden soup spoon in Vaison la Romaine. Everyone can taste the different soups for free. Most of the time it is also possible to eat together at long tables. Truly an experience!

Every year a fireworks show is being held in Vaison la Romaine on the French national holiday day of 14 July. The fireworks are set off behind the Roman excavations creating a special setting. Around 22 when it is completely dark the performance begins. Make sure to be there ahead of time to find an available parking space.

In Vaison la Romaine there are many cats to discover between the Roman excavations. One of them is the cat in the photo who chose a beautiful spot to relax. The cats are led by volunteers and, where possible, the propagation is limited. A fun game for big and small.... who discover most cats....

During a visit to Vaison la Romaine, you have the opportunity to cool down in the river Ouvèze behind the car park near the old town. It is the parking lot that is located along the river from the old bridge towards the Mont Ventoux.

La Belle Etoile is one of our favorite restaurants. It is very atmospheric and decorated with attention to detail. The menu is special and they cook with fresh market produce. In addition, they have tasty wines (including recommended Mas Pouperas). When it gets busy it might take of while to receive your order. So take the time to enjoy the beautiful location and slow food. The restaurant is in the old town and is the first restaurant on your left.

We are fans of Mas Pouperas wines. The first bottle we drank for a few years during a romantic dinner at La Belle Etoiles restaurant in the old part of Vaison la Romaine. It was the red unforgettable Funambulle. Besides Funambule (corddancer) they are offer their Je Fais un Rêve (I dreamed), Tu me fais tourner la tête (you make me "dizzy") and not to mention their rosé Pour toi (for you).
Their wine is for sale at the La Violette Mauve wine shop in Vaison la Romaine with sympathetic staff around the corner at the Place Montfort (3 rue de maquis open from 10h - 12h30 / 15h30 - 19.30)

If you are going to France for a holiday then you can not really miss the macarons. The macaron is an Italian / French invention that has existed for more than 450 years! The recipe consists of a mixture of almond, protein and powdered sugar. The cookie is characterized by a sensitive preparation. In recent years Pierre Desfontaines has gained more attention in his patisserie Laduree in Paris. In the meantime they have become a global culinary rage. In Vaison la Romaine they are waiting for you at a la carte and ice cream parlor Peyerol.

This is a photo of the big playground in Vaison la Romaine. He is located along the river Ouvèze in the direction of Roaix near the flood memorial of 1992. In total, it is a large park where you enjoy a picnic.

Every Tuesday and Saturday morning from 8 to 12 there is a small organic market in Vaison la Romaine. You will find people who offer their own vegetables and fruit. Often from beautiful old cars. The market can be found in the car park at the roundabout to the center past the wine cave of Vaison la Romaine.

Since 2005, we have bought most of our groceries here in addition to the organic market. It is a spacious 300 m2 store with a wide range of products. The staff really takes the time for you. The shop is located near the church with a monastery.
