Within 5 minutes walking distance of our farm is the "Espace botanique Les Piboules" of Entrechaux. It is a landscaped hiking trail on a natural plot of land next to the river. There are explanation boards placed at many locally grown plants, shrubs and trees. There are various climbing equipment for the children. When you walk down the gravel road you should not go straight to the Roman bridge but turn left. After about 200 meters, the entrance is on the right side of the road.
Above you can see the sign indications of the GR (Chemins de Grandes Randonnées) hiking routes. The GR trails form a network of long-range footpaths throughout Europe. In France the routes are not always logically indicated in our opinion so keep your eyes focused on these indications in different locations. In addition to a topographic map, a GPS device can also be very useful.
In the Mont Ventoux area there are several GR (grandes randonnées) hiking trails. The GR4 and 9 are located on the Mont Ventoux. At Rasteau there is a variant on the GR4 de "Tour de Massif de Rasteau" and at Seguret there is also a variant called the "Tour des Dentelles". The following maps are very practical for tracking the routes IGN Card 3040 ET and IGN Card 3140 ET. A gps device might be helpful tracking your route.
This photo was taken during a walk with the attractive village of Gigondas as starting point. The walk goes from the main square into the hills and has a wide viewpoint on the way. In the village you can have a nice lunch before or after a nice restaurant in the village. The walk is on our Wikiloc page so you can easily download it with a mobile device and check it out.

Last weekend we had a wonderful walk with friends on one of the foothills of the Dentelles de Montmirail. It is a cartel-shaped mountain than originated during the last ice age. The walk is part of the GR4 walk around the Dentellen. The walk begins past the top of the village of Crestet. In the top of the village you have to turn left and then drive straight through a largely paved road. Near Domaine la Verrière, you can park your car along the way, because from here the road becomes more unobtrusive for an ordinary car. Continue the trail straight up. Along the path you will find the markings. At the top you have a very nice view from 500 meters high.
The Mont Ventoux is 1912 meters high and is visible from the wide area in the Vaucluse. The Latin translation is about the mountain where the wind prevails. Wind speeds of 250 km per hour have been recorded on the top of the mountain! The mountain originated 70 million years ago during the ice age and has an asymmetric shape. He has a very steep north side and an elongated south side. The mergel-based limestone underground is best seen on the bald top. The mountain consists of 4 different climate zones with varied vegetation. On the slopes there are more than 400 flower species and more than 900 plant species. In addition, there are more than 100 bird species, and there are foxes, foxes, wild boar, reebok, wezels, hares and rabbits. The Ventoux is very woody with lots of cedars, pine trees, spruces, oaks and maples. The well-known truffle and many mushrooms can be found. All in all, the Ventoux is seen as very valuable. It is therefore a protected nature reserve as a whole.
The Dentelles de Montmirail are located close to the famous wine village of Gigondas. Before entering the village there is a turn left towards the Dentellen. In the end, after a steep climb, you arrive at the parking lot. From the parking lot the top seems high, but within a half hour you walk up the the top with a beautiful view. There are many different walks possible. You can walk around all the way, but you have to climb up a bit and wear shoes with a good profile. With children under 10 years this is not recommended. It is also possible to take quite flat walks towards Beaumes de Venise, Suzette and Lafare. Do not forget, especially in the summer, to bring enough water and food.
Just behind our farm lies a large piece of forest. From here you can make various walks, among other things along vineyards but also along the river Ouvèze. The photo was taken along the high rock wall at the beginning of the evening. From here you can enjoy the view over the river.
This is a photo of the black madonna standing on a hill opposite to the old town. From here you have a beautiful 360 degree view of Mont Ventoux to the old town of Vaison la Romaine. You can reach the madonna by walking up next to the hospital.
Here's the reward of the short walk....
